ACLU is short for the American Civil Liberties Union. That is their official name. People have suggested the American Communist Liberties Union. Herewith is something from the disgruntled.
ACLU And A Legacy Of Hypocrisy
They are keen on the American Constitution - as long as they like what it says. They favour free speech but got a gagging order against one of their board members because he objected to them spying on their subscribers.They did complain bitterly about American government espionage and of course they hate the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms [ RKBA ].
