Craig Murray, Her Majesty's Government and Torture

Her Majesty's ambassador to Uzbekistan has views about human rights and the Courage to do something about them. Her Majesty's Government is not amused. Sacking him and censoring his book are the moves to date. There could be more. It seems that he made off with some floozy from one of those Hell holes somewhere past Dover. This could be used to embarrass him.

QUOTE
We spend the hour with the former British ambassador to Uzbekistan, Craig Murray. The British government has stopped the publication of his book [ Murder In Samarkand - Editor ]. In a Democracy Now exclusive, Murray tells why he defied the British Foreign Office by posting a series of classified memos on his website. Murray was fired as ambassador to Uzbekistan after he openly criticized the British and U.S. governments for supporting human rights abuses under the Uzbek regime. [includes rush transcript]
UNQUOTE from http://www.craigmurray.co.uk/
As Britain's outspoken Ambassador to the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan, Craig Murray helped expose vicious human rights abuses by the US-funded regime of Islam Karimov. He is now a prominent critic of Western policy in the region.

European Head of Counter-terrorism Criticises Impact of US Policies on Torture and Rendition

From The Financial Times

European governments must take a principled stand on the issue of human rights as a key part of the global strategy for combating terrorism, Gijs de Vries, the European Union’s counter-terrorism co-ordinator, said on Thursday.

It goes on. With a headline like that the story pretty well writes itself.

Would Blair have claimed that he was in favour of torture before he got to be Her Majesty's Prime Minister? Again, the answer pretty well writes itself. For more go to http://www.craigmurray.co.uk/

The Catholic Orangemen Of Togo by Craig Murray
QUOTE
Buy: The Catholic Orangmen of Togo (DIRECT)

I have been obliged to self-publish my new book, The Catholic Orangemen of Togo and Other Conflicts I Have Known, because legal threats from mercenary commander Tim Spicer scared off my publisher:
http://www.craigmurray.org.uk/Schillings.pdf I [ or  Schillings.pdf ]

I have accordingly decided to make it available free online from 12 January as a PDF hosted on over a hundred different websites, in almost thirty different jurisdictions. I have, however, had physical books printed for those who wish (and purchased carbon offset). I hope to get copies into bookstores shortly, though this is difficult. It is available from Amazon.co.uk for just 11.87

Colonel Spicer, a mercenary came in for very bad publicity. It was largely malicious but it seems he does not want any more. He has turned nasty. Mr Murray did not use the Arkell versus Pressdram defence i.e. tell them to fuck off. He used the Duke of Wellington's i.e. Publish and be damned. SourceWatch does not like Tim either.

Her Majesty's Ambassador And The Belly Dancer  [ 30 January 2008 ]
QUOTE
Nadira Alieva has come a long way since growing up in a family of actors in the central Uzbek town of Jizzakh....  the 26-year-old tells her life story..... before meeting British Ambassador Craig Murray, who left his wife to take her back to London with him.  She tells it all while also performing a belly dance in a sequined dress and veil.
UNQUOTE
An ambassador is supposed to be more of an observer than participant. Falling for the floozy leaves him with a wife who can't see the funny side of it,  a lot of envious colleagues and an excuse for being sacked. Her Majesty's Foreign Secretary is a Jew and the grandson of a mass murderer but that is different.

The Legal Position on the Israeli Attack [ 2 June 2010 ]
QUOTE
But as I told this afternoon's tremendous spontaneous demonstration on Whitehall, fine words are not enough and we must now see the kind of sanctions regime we saw against apartheid South Africa. A word on the legal position, which is very plain. To attack a foreign flagged vessel in international waters is illegal. It is not piracy, as the Israeli vessels carried a military commission. It is rather an act of illegal warfare......The Law of the Sea is quite plain that, when an incident takes place on a ship on the high seas (outside anybody's territorial waters) the applicable law is that of the flag state of the ship on which the incident occurred. In legal terms, the Turkish ship was Turkish territory.

Craig Murray is very sound man who sacrificed his job as an ambassador with the Foreign Office to the truth.

CIA is the World's Biggest Drug Dealer [ 18 August 2007 ]
QUOTE
This week the 64th British soldier to die in Afghanistan, Corporal Mike Gilyeat, was buried...... But the key question is this: what are our servicemen dying for?..... There was a logic to attacking Afghanistan after 9/11. Afghanistan was indeed the headquarters of Osama Bin Laden and his organisation, who had been installed and financed there by the CIA to fight the Soviets from 1979 until 1989..... the occupation has.... has increased Afghan GDP by 66 per cent and constitutes 40 per cent of the entire economy.... The achievement is the highest harvests of opium the world has ever seen.....

The four largest players in the heroin business are all senior members of the Afghan government – the government that our soldiers are fighting and dying to protect..... Our Afghan policy is still victim to Tony Blair's simplistic world view and his childish division of all conflicts into 'good guys' and 'bad guys'.

Labour Colludes With Torturer. Ambassador Talks. Labour Turns Nasty [ 9 July 2006 ]
Craig Murray was Her Majesty's ambassador to Uzbekistan which is one those little Hell holes in the remnants of the Soviet Empire. He told any one who cared to listen about the evil that goes on there and Western connivance. After being called a liar for his pains he has published government paper which proves that he is not. They are putting the frighteners on. To see the forbidden paper go to http://www.craigmurray.co.uk/documents/docs.html

Re: UK govt demands Craig Murray 'unpublish' these docs
"banana" <banana@REMOVE_THIS.borve.demon.co.uk> wrote in message news:2f1l$$A$DEsEFwsO@borve.demon.co.uk...

UK govt lawyers are trying to force Craig Murray to 'unpublish' official documents, on the grounds that publication infringes 'Crown copyright' even when documents have been obtained under the Data Protection Act or Freedom of Information Act.

Some tosser called Gareth Buttrill
(<gareth.buttrill@tsol.gov.uk>) of the Treasury Solicitors, acting for
the Foreign Office ("my client"), has signed his name to the threatening
letter, which is at:

and

.06.pdf>

Craig Murray has replied:

>>>Mr Buttrill,

>>>As no court has ruled on anything, I would like to know by what power
>>>you, acting for the government, can tell me what I "must" do in this
>>>respect. I am putting that question formally to you as a government
>>>servant and it is not rhetorical; I require an answer.

Let's not hold our breath for an answer. Craig Murray

Alisher Usmanov
Has been written up as a very nasty criminal by Mr. Murray. Usmanov's lawyers are leaning on the media to keep them quiet.

Her Majesty's Ambassador To Uzbekistan Sentenced To Eight Months In Prison  [ 12 May 2021 ]
QUOTE
Britain's former ambassador to Uzbekistan has said he was 'slightly surprised' at being sentenced to eight months in jail for contempt of court over his blog on Alex Salmond's sex assault trial. Craig Murray, 62, had watched two days of Mr Salmond's trial in March 2020 from the public gallery of Edinburgh's High Court before writing about the proceedings on his own website.........

'I'm genuinely slightly surprised with how the sentence went, it seems sort of out of line from what people have known to get for contempt of court. 'I was really surprised by some of the judge's comments. One thing to say is I will be appealing not just to the sentence but to the whole offence,' Murray said.

Judges ruled that Murray was in contempt of court relating to material capable of identifying four of the nine women who accused the former first minister of sexual abuse..............

'I genuinely did not intend to identify anyone I really didn't, and I don't think I did identify anyone. I still believe that,' Murray said. 'There was no evidence led at all by anyone to justify the judges remarks about doing it 'deliberately and lethally' as she said.

'I just don't know where that came from, it wasn't alleged by the prosecution, it wasn't in the evidence. I don't know how she could say such a thing. I found it all a bit strange. Slightly bemused but ready to continue with the appeal.'
UNQUOTE
Is the judge a fool or a bad tempered fool? Was the Foreign Office getting vengeance because Craig told the truth about Uzbekistan? Was it a Malicious Prosecution? Pass.
