Derry

Derry aka Londonderry is in Northern Ireland aka Ulster and the scene of faction fighting between Catholics and Protestants. The main reasons for fighting are jobs and therefore money. Historical grievances are mentioned too. The major strategic triumph for the IRA happened on Bloody Sunday in 1972.

On that day, one cold January Catholic  marchers went into an area called Free Derry where men of 1 PARA, the First Battalion of the Parachute Regiment fired on them, getting 13 kills. Catholics throughout Ireland were upset and burnt down the British embassy in Dublin. Now there is a war of pictures, a battle for hearts and minds. Part of it is at http://www.bogsideartists.com/

Bloody Sunday
Was the incident when men of the  Parachute Regiment killed 13 demonstrators. It was very useful to the  IRA which is why, arguably they chose to incite it. A Catholic view is put at http://setthetruthfree.org/bloody-sunday-events/

McGuinness Fired The First Shot. McGuinness Started Bloody Sunday
It was a major propaganda triumph for him. McGuinness went Scot free.

Bloody Sunday - The Spectator's View
The Saville Inquiry was a gross waste of money. That is from a man who was there for too long. Memories get very confused or just fade. Passions arise. Evidence becomes contradictory or merely worthless. Saville dragged it out for 12 years. Lawyers got fat on it. It reopened old wounds. Truth came nowhere.

The Protestants took part in the mural wars too. When you see kerb stones painted red, white and blue, it is Prods and commitment.

The artist knows what a Kalashnikov looks like.

Protestants again.

HMS Belfast is lying by Tower Bridge in London. She came out of a Belfast ship yard - just like the Titanic.

Fans of Ernesto tend to ignore his track record of murderous violence.

Father Daly was there on the day. He got to be a bishop later.

The IRA is not so much nationalist as Marxist. The series of murals in the Falls Road show that. They sympathize with Shining Path or Sendero Luminoso, ETA, the South African Communist Party and Palestinians in Gaza. I am with them on that one.

Bloody Sunday explained.

Free Derry is very much the Catholic area. It is quite near to the border so Protestants have a smaller presence.

Bernadette Devlin speaks, when she was not so old, not so ugly. Her bastard daughter went to prison for a mortar attack in Europe.

This photo would have been taken about the same time. She looks fat and gormless. Producing a bastard did not go down well with her audience.

More on her track record at Bernadette Devlin

The 13 plus one of Bloody Sunday.

It was 13 on Bloody Sunday and 13 hundred when the Jews attacked Gaza with tanks, aircraft, machine guns, artillery, white phosphorus, you name it. That is 100 to one. There was not half the fuss about what the Jews did.

English pubs go. Irish pubs go too.

A man of the Parachute Regiment breaking into something.

Guernica by Picasso revisited. It was rubbish first time round, pretentious rubbish, what  the Germans call  Kitsch. It still is unless it is Degenerate Art, which is degradation.

Palestine again.

The Free Derry Museum. It all happened just outside this front door.

The pig was never going to win any beauty competitions.

That is where they know all about it. The curator's brother was one of the dead.

Jobs matter. Money matters. Being on the dole means being useless. That was the financial pressure that caused aggravation.

The Dirty Protest when prisoners refused to wear the clothes given to common criminals. Hunger striking was part of it; not a fun way to die.

This is a Protestant offering. He is taking his protesting very seriously.

This is a dove of peace combined with an oak leaf at the bottom right. The leaf is from the Irish word Derry.   A nice little French lass explained this in The People's Gallery.

Peace activists? Sort of. Mother Teresa was harmless.  Mandela was a communist subversive used by Jews to incite hatred and break South Africa. The fat, stupid looking black will be The Very Reverend Martin Luther King, a nasty thug used by Jews to incite hatred and break America. The top left one could be anyone.

This may perfectly well be a genuine quote and therefore checkable. This is a Protestant offering.

BBC - Legacies - Immigration and Emigration - Northern Ireland ... gives this quote.

Notice the kerb stones, the Protestant trade mark.

Photos taken there and then or not. It looks like a war zone but then it was.

More damage. More men waiting to go.

When they move they move fast.

Prisoners are definitely prisoners.

This is the famous photo of Father Daly escorting a victim out. Another photo at a slightly different time is coloured.

You're nicked.

Forty-year controversy: Soldiers arrest a man on Bloody Sunday. Army chiefs have appealed to paratroopers involved to volunteer their names and addresses to a new investigation

Stop and search was quick.

Ditto for these men.

This one is not taken - yet.

Priests were there on the day.

The identities of the soldiers working on Bloody Sunday have been protected by successive inquiries over four decades

Bloody Sunday? Maybe.

Ireland and soldiers with rubber dick guns.

A lance corporal still looks as though he is enjoying himself.

Here he is again - the crap hat looks pathetic.

He's got another

Women were captured too. They are useful for carrying hidden weapons. Martin McGuinness was there with a Thompson sub machine gun but QUOTE  can't remember UNQUOTE whether he opened fire.

An Irishman is down.

Notice all of those stones thrown by the poor, innocent victims of the naughty soldiers.

Father Daly
Father Daly's claim to fame is that he was there on Bloody Sunday in 1972. He would probably have preferred not to be known for it, that it had not happened. Such is life, such is death when things turn nasty. He was also there during  Operation Motorman.

Father Daly

The original photo.

Father Daly was there on the day. He got to be the Bishop of Derry later.

The man of the Parachute Regiment is standing on the civil rights flag. This is symbolic.
