Corruption

There was a stage in English history when the Civil Service was cleaned up. Gladstone brought us the Northcote Trevelyan Report as a start. Commissions in the Army were bought and sold. It was standard practice. The Cardwell Reforms of 1868 through 1874 of the British Army were to clean up dishonest preferment. William Pit was a Whig who got a grip of the Old Corruption. It has been replaced by the New Corruption.

Similar malpractices were sorted out. Now it is all becoming standard practice again. Civil servants move into big business and vice versa. Her Majesty's Government has the power to extort money and the power to spend it. Equally big business has the power to buy influence. They hardly pretend to bother that they are not doing it.

In Nigeria Bribery is a spot market. One man pays; the other gives him the permit on the spot. In England it is a forward market. The civil servant awards the contract. The civil servant gets his directorship in the future. Corruption is easier to hide that way. Blair is getting richer by the day. Nigeria is more honest. There is plenty of it left.

Taxpayer Owned Northern Rock To Pay £13 Million Bonuses [ 10 March 2011 ]

He says nothing about the corruption of Big Government, Big Business, Big Fraud but then he gets Big Pay.
