Kyle Rittenhouse

Kyle Rittenhouse is a 17 year old American lad from Illinois with a sense of civic duty. He went to Kenosha, Wisconsin as part of a civilian militia, in order to defend life and property against "protestors". This was after white police shot Jacob Blake, an armed black criminal resisting arrest.

The Wikipedia informs us that the Kenosha "Protests"  were QUOTE peaceful UNQUOTE; it uses the word three time in its article. but also shows us a car park full of cars destroyed by arson. Other "protesters" were rioters, looters, arsonists and general purpose criminals having fun.

Kyle was doing what the police should have been, helping maintain law and order. He killed two criminals and shot another who was armed. All of this was after he was attacked. The whole thing was a clear case of self-defence. The arguments pro and con are essentially political but the whole thing is part of what could become the opening of America's Civil War II. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth later said that ahead of Tuesday night's protests, a group of armed individuals had asked him to deputize them to patrol the city of Kenosha, which he refused. He said he did not know if Rittenhouse had been part of the group, but that the possibility of such an incident was why he had refused the request to deputize them.^[53]

There, he and his friend were invited to join other adults who had been asked by the owners of a used car lot in Kenosha to guard the property after 100 cars had been torched the previous night, when police abandoned the town to rioters. These are cases where there is little or no evidence inconsistent with self-defense, such that there can no good-faith reason for a prosecutor to drag that defender to trial.  The only motivation of the prosecutor is personal aggrandizement and political capital.

An acquittal after the trial does not make up for the loss of job, marriage, home, business, reputation, educational opportunities, and emotional stability. Indeed, many such acquitted defenders find it largely impossible to ever live a normal life again.

It's time to change this equation.  It's time to compel prosecutors to have skin in the game, to have something to lose if they bring a laughably weak, yet horribly destructive, felony prosecution in a case of self-defense.  And it's time to provide a path for the wrongfully prosecuted defender to get compensation for his monetary, reputational, and emotional damages.

Kyle's Law is my proposal to accomplish exactly that.   This statutory proposal targets laughably weak prosecutions of self-defense cases, prosecutions so weak they can only be politically motivated, and without any real prospect of conviction.
